SAUNDERS THREAD SPECIFICATIONS KEVLAR® KEVLAR® IS THE REGISTERED TRADEMARK FOR DuPont's family of high-temperature-resistant aramid fibers having a unique combination of toughness, extra-high strength and exceptional thermal stability. SAUNDERS THREAD manufactures both continuous multifilament and spun KEVLAR® for a variety of sewing operations. Continuous multifilament KEVLAR® is available in both soft and bonded, but only in natural yellow color. Spun KEVLARŪ is available in a range of package dyed colors. There will be strength loss when dying the Spun KEVLAR®. This should be taken into consideration when selecting the correct Tex and Yarn Size. The spun fiber is considered un-dyeable and some variation can be seen from one lot to the next. FILAMENT KEVLAR® A-A-55220
Bonded finish will average about 94% of minimum yardage. FIBER TECHNICAL INFORMATION KEVLAR®: A manufactured fiber in which the fiber forming substance is a long chain synthetic polyamide in which at least 85% of the amide linkages are attached directly to two aromatic rings. EFFECTS OF HEAT: Difficult to ignite. Does not propagate flame. Does not melt. Decomposes at 900° F EFFECTS OF BLEACHES & SOLVENTS: Should not be bleached. Excellent solvent resistance. DYES USED: Filament KEVLAR® - producer colored only. Filament KEVLAR® cannot be dyed. RESISTANCE TO MILDEW, AGING, SUNLIGHT, ABRASION: Excellent resistance to mildew and aging. Prolonged exposure to sunlight causes deterioration, but fibers self-screening. Good abrasion resistance. If you would like to print this spec sheet, select here.
