FIBER TECHNICAL INFORMATION
NOMEX®: A manufactured fiber in which the fiber forming substance is a long chain synthetic polyamide in which at least 85% of the amide linkages are attached directly to two aromatic rings.
EFFECT OF HEAT: Does not melt. Decomposes at about 700° F.
EFFECTS OF ACIDS & ALKALIS: Unaffected by most acids, except some strength loss after long exposure to hydrochloric, nitrics and sulfuric. Generally good resistance to alkalis.
EFFECTS OF BLEACHES & SOLVENTS: Unaffected by most bleaches and solvents except slight strength loss from exposure to sodium chlorite.
DYES USED: Industrial yarn is nondyeable. Staple is dyeable with some type dyes.
RESISTANCE TO MILDEW, AGING, SUNLIGHT, ABRASION: Excellent resistance to mildew and aging. Prolonged exposure to sunlight causes some strength loss. Good abrasion resistance.
